My First Court Case
Thursday, August 28, 2008  @   6:23 AM.
I think I was made of ONLY NERVES today...

OMG..I messed up big time for today's mock court trial...For the benefit of those who do not have the privelege of being my classmates, I'm currently taking a law paper. It requires us to present a court case being tried in court every week. Yes, we have everybody, the judges panel, barristers (note that, BARRISTERS not just mere lawyers) and members of the floor. Too bad that we don't have witnesses...It would be fun to see my nutter friends play-acting the role...(HOR...Xin Tang. I think you would be a good Betty).

Anyway, I was the main judge of a panel of three...(NO, we don't wear any wigs or long black robes). I didn't prepare my speech because I was trying to be neutral...If I prepared, I'll be even more biased than Jwu. I have to base my decision on how convincing the barristers were, right?

But I simply LOVE the questioning session. It felt awesome to be able to pinpoint questions at Zhi Weng and Evon (they were barristers for defendant, Paul who cheated on his wife - it's a long story), slowly driving them into a corner...Jwu and I came up with not the best but really good questions

but I didn't quite get the effect I wanted. DANG. That means I wasn't good enough...

That's why I haven't posted since Tuesday...I was busy discussing with Jwu and Chiu Thang (the other two judges) they were amazing partners...Chiu Thang, seeing you work so hard was inspirational. Jwu, you're twisted. *winks*

When Ms. Jeyanthi said, "If I put Wei Vern as judge, you will run for cover," that made my day! I was happy because that meant I did not bad as a first-time judge.

Next, I'll be barrister for defendant with Xin Tang. I'm not really looking forward to the next case...I haven't read the question thoroughly but it looks awfully LONG and COMPLICATED. How am I going to get my head round it, I don't know. What's more Jwu and Zhi Weng are BOTH on the floor...They'll be shooting questions left, right and centre...It'll be a war zone...

Sorry, no pics...too busy being nervous.
Until next time, ciao~vern
